Jacksyn Ivy Jayne- Bio & Resume

Raised in Los Angeles, California, Jacksyn has always loved acting, theatre and anything macabre. She started auditioning in LA when she was 11 years old after studying at Gary Spatz’s “The Playground- A Young Actor’s Conservatory” and graduated from their advanced acting program. Changing her focus from film acting to theater, she auditioned and was accepted to the Los Angeles County High School (LACHSA) for the Arts in the Theater Program and later the Musical Theater program as well. Loving all aspects of the theater, including the actual act of creating a play, Jacksyn embarked on writing a multitude of smaller projects that were workshopped in her various writing courses before beginning work on her playwriting debut and directorial piece Mattress, a 3 hour 2 act play delving into the complicated nuances of domestic violence and the effect of mental illness on a frightened mind. The piece, drawn from a lot of personal fears and traumas, took nearly 2 and a half years to write and various resources, including Jacksyn leaving her High School briefly to pursue it before returning and producing it as an independent student production her senior year of High School. Mattress debuted at the Studio/Stage Theater owned by the Stagecrafts to three sold out audiences in April of 2023 which as kickstarted Jacksyn into a massive reworking and rewriting process that she hopes will lead to a second production with all new aesthetics and ideas coming soon. Much of the inspiration for Mattress was drawn from more interpretive or absurdist works like that of Samuel Beckett or Susan Lori Parks, these playwrights and other influences like David Lynch and Mary Shelley helped saturate the world of the show to be a dark, poignant land of uncanny imagery including movement sequences and massive shock factor moments all with practical effects. Ivy-Jayne has loved anything Halloween or Monstrous since youth, with some earlier work outside of theater being in the construction of Haunted Houses around LA, lots of the same styles apply to her tone for her theatrical works as well. Which is why Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group in NoHo, known for their dark experimentation in immersive theater was the perfect place to set her second project Another Nail in The Coffin, a campy feminist slasher that hooks audiences with the sexy, witty and vengeful tone and remains completely unpredictable while navigating themes of grief, loss of innocence, violence and exploring sibling dynamics in various genders. The hilarious show took audiences on a ride through a nail salon full of femme cultists looking to indoctrinate audiences into their mission of riding the world of men- not before things go horrifically wrong and the mission begins to fall apart from the inside. The show was a success with two sold out audiences and high hopes of another rendition. Ivy-Jayne last minute jumped into the show herself and joined the cast after an actor’s emergency and played the role of “Aster” along with directing the show. Jacksyn currently attends NYU Tisch’s Experimental Theatre Wing and is pursuing a BFA in Acting and is predominately located in New York City. Never straying from the strange, the taboo, the scary and the surreal, Jacksyn is currently working on a multitude of different projects both acting and writing and she is always look onto to take on something new!
